Coupeville is home to the Island County Historical Society and Museum. This interesting Museum houses the first car (from 1902) owned by a Whidbey Island resident, permanent displays featuring regional Native American history, and several exhibits depicting the rich 150 year heritage of Island County. To celebrate the sesquicentennial birthdays of both Island County and Coupeville at the 150 year marker, special speakers, programs and additional exhibits are scheduled each month of 2003. Permanent outdoor exhibits include war canoes, a blockhouse and a salmon wheel. Glance down the length of Coupeville Wharf from the Museum's front door and you've found the location of a full whale skeleton exhibit! The Historical Society offers a variety of self and docent guided history walks and tours.
